BACKGROUND

Zhou Mi was born into a well-off family. Not extremely wealthy or privileged, but not dirt poor either. His parents left when he was very young, abandoning him in the care of his mother’s younger sister, his aunt. As a result, he never knew his parents, other than the memory of his mother giving him a short kiss on his head, before she ran out of the door without a care.

His childhood was spent in the household of his aunt, who never married. She cared for him like she was his own mother, and when his Gift began to manifest in his early adolescent years, she didn’t reject him like many parents/guardians did, but wholeheartedly accepted him. He understands that not many are lucky to have such acceptance, and is grateful for aunt to be so caring.

His Gift began to show as little things, such as the fact that he sometimes found that he could travel out of his dreams in his sleep out of his own will, and enter others. At first, he was convinced that it was just his own imaginings, but as his power began to mature, he often found that he could control the events that happened in another’s dreams with his own will, as his aunt frequently told him of the happenings in her dreams, and he realised he had done something to change their course.

Perhaps it was because of his calm and hardly explosive nature, but he never found his Gift difficult to keep in check. The only hard part about his Gift was that he had to learn to keep in control even in sleep, but he eventually got that down.

When he graduated from middle school, and was preparing to go on to high school, he received a letter from the Headmaster of Kwang Ju Academy, explaining about the school and inviting him to join. It took a lot of thought, but after weighing the pros and cons, he finally decided to go to Kwang Ju Academy, and relocated to South Korea in order to attend the school. Despite having previous knowledge of Korean (he took classes), it was difficult to get used to his new surroundings, but he kept pushing forward.

He’s decided that it was definitely worth it, because he’s gained much more experience and control over his powers in the several years he’s been at Kwang Ju, much more than he would have gained if he had decided to go about it on his own in the same number of years, he’s sure. He’s never squandered the education that’s he’s been able to get, and usually tries to do the best he can, making him quite the successful student.
